When a powered wheelchair dies thirty minutes before a patient is due to be picked up, or a CT scan machine throws a fault on a fully booked day, you don't need a theory. You need a list. This is a practical checklist for anyone who has to make the call: fix it in-house, swap the part, or escalate to a certified service technician. It is not a replacement for the manufacturer's official manual—it's a triage checklist to help you find the fastest safe path.
In my role coordinating service for hospitals, rehab centers, and small clinics, I've handled 300+ rush orders in the last eight years—maybe 340, I'd have to check the log. Last quarter alone, we processed 47 rush orders with a 95% on-time rate. The ones that fell apart had one thing in common: somebody skipped a step. A photo can save you from a wiring mistake. Remove the old batteries, inspect the tray for corrosion or swelling, and install the new pair if it's a dual-battery system.
Torque settings matter. Over-tightening a battery terminal can crack a post; under-tightening can cause arcing. Use the manual for the torque spec. And if anything looks swollen or corroded, stop.
If the battery case is swollen, the terminals are corroded, or the wiring is brittle, stop. Call the manufacturer's support line before doing anything else.

6. Verify, clear, and road-test
